Customer Type links are used to create a group of customers. The Group can then be used to create promotions or to create customer specific product catalogues or personalised content.
There are 3 different Group Types:
- Visibility Group
- Promotion Group
- Web Content Group
Visibility Group
Assign customers to a specific Visibility Group, set product visibility , see manage product, and you can control which products a customer can access.
Customer Visibility group and product visibility groups are supported via API, which means that you can control this from your ERP system.

To link products to Visibility Groups via ERP,
On the Product Master data Extension form (SAP: UDFs),
Set the visibility groups where the product should be visible to "Y", and "N" for Visibility Groups where the product should not be visible.
The Visibility Groups in ERP are linked in order, i.e. a "Y" in the first box, will make the product visible to customers linked to visibility group # 1.
In the example above, 1 is "Approved". The description of a visibility can be set to represent what the group actually represents, e.g. a market segment, a region, premium customers etc.
In ERP, for each customer, you select which Visibility Group the customer is linked to.
e.g. 1 - "Approved" customer, will make all products flagged "Y" for visibility group 1 be visible in the product catalogue.
(In the Ecommerce control, both customers and products can be set to default to a specific Visibility Group. This is normally configured when the site is deployed. )
Promotion Group
Group customers using promotion group. Then create promotion valid for the whole group of customers.
Saves time compared to creating a separate promotion for each individual customer.
Web Content Group
Enables different web content to be presented to specified (target-) groups of customers.
