Admin > SEO > 301 Redirect URLs
Introduction
Redirect URL's are useful for directing a customer to a new page when they try and enter a page that has been previously removed. For example, if a product is no longer being stocked, a Redirect URL could be used to take the customer to a suitable alternative.
Types of Redirect URLs
There are 2 types of Redirect URL's available- Manual and Dynamic. A dynamic URL can link to a specific product, brand, group of products, or corporate page, a manual redirect will simply redirect to another URL of your choice. Typically a dynamic URL should be used where possible.
Product: The most important redirect. Redirects each products URL from your old site to the products URL on the new site. Normally these are loaded from XL. When loading from XL you need to use the product code to match up the old and new URL's. see Upload Redirects from XL below
Corporate-Page: Content pages, e.g. "About Us", "Delivery instructions", "Terms and Conditions" ,,,
Brand: Link to individual Brand pages
TypeofGood: Links to product "category" pages. Top level in product hierarchy.
Group: Links to Product Group pages. 2nd level in product hierarchy.
SubGroup: Links to 3rd level in product hierarchy, not always used.
Creating a Manual Redirect URL
Admin > SEO > select 301 Redirect URLs.
Press "New".
Make sure the URL Type "Manual" is selected.
In Old Url, Enter the URL of the old page you wish redirect customers from. This URL only needs to be the old page name. For example, if the old page was located at "http://www.myestore.com/discontinued_product" the only text that should be entered is "discontinued_product". The full address is not necessary.
In New Url, Enter the location where you want to send customers to. Once again only the page name is necessary, for example, if customers need to be redirected to "http://www.myestore.com/alternative_product", simply enter "alternative_product" in this field.
Now press create and the Redirect URL will be enabled.
Creating a Dynamic Redirect URL

- Download All URL's - download this file first. This file contains all the new URL's and for products it includes the product code. You will need to product code to match New product URL's with the Old Product URL's. ( the product code is not required for the load template, see below)
- Download redirects - An extract of existing redirects. Will be empty if you have not already loaded redirects.
- Download Redirect Example Load Template - Download this. This is the load template, with some ( "dummy" ) example data.
Note: For All URL's applies, only use relative URL's, i.e. dont include your domain in URL.
