It is common that a product is sold in different sizes or colours. E.g. a bolt, or a t-shirt, each size and colour variation has its uniquque product code ( SKU code), but on the e-com site it would clutter the listing pages to display each variation.
e.g. a Fuse , is available in 10 different variations ( Amp rating ).
In this scenario, you can link all variations of the product, and only display one of the variations on the listing page.
A product with product variations displayed on a listing page:
When the user clicks on the product "View Details", and the Product Details page is displayed, all size variations are displayed.
How to configure products with variations:
All setup is normally done in your ERP system. See Master Data Maintenance.
The parameters relating to product variations can be viewed on ODSNet, see Manage Products
SKU code is the item code ( product code ).
Generic Code: The individual product variations are linked with a Generic Code. This can can be anything. A good rule is to use the part of the itemcode that is common for the products being grouped, or use the product code ( SKU code) of the product that you choose to display on the listing page ( Generic Default product).
Generic Default ( Y / N): One of the products MUST be the Generic Default, have Generic Default set to "Yes".
- This product will displayed on the listing page
- It is this products image that will be used
- Normally, select the cheapest item as the Generic Default, as the price is displayed on the listing page.
- The product selected as Generic Default MUST be Active and available to view for all visibility groups.
Generic Name: Product Name that will be displayed on the listing page. This name should have a description that applies to all variations, i.e. Fuses various sizes ( not specific to the variation, like Fuse 2 AMP ).
Generic Description: This description is (normally) displayed on the product details page, and should apply to all product variations, e.g." .... Fuses with AMP rating from 2 to 30 AMPs .... " rather than being specific to each product variation.
