Overview
This promotion is for when you want customers to receive a product at a specific discount when the customer is part of a specific group customer type.
Customer types
These allow you to bunch multiple customer accounts together so that you can set it so that only they are able to access
the promotions.
To setup a Customer type go to Admin > Pricing and Promotions > Customer types.
In here you will be able to see all the customer types currently setup on site whether they are for product visibility groups or promotion customer type, in this scenario we need to setup a new promotion customer type.
To create the customer type, click new, then in the new page, enter a code for the group, provide it with a description, set the group type to promotion group and tick promotion group, then save.
Then to Link a customer account to that group, go to Admin > Pricing and Promotions > Customer types links.
In this menu search for the customer you wish to link, and view their customer groups, then click new on the next screen.
On the curren page from the drop down select the applicable type and save.
Promotion Setup
Now that the group has been setup, go to Admin > Pricing and Promotions > Promotions, create anew promotion header, with the run from to dates, then go into the criteria and click new to begin setting up the promotion Criteria.
For the promotion criteria I am setting up this is for on the line level, this means that this promotion will trigger as the customer is adding items to their basket, whereas if it was for order level, this means the promotion will trigger when going from the basket to the checkout.
Override Special Prices - If you use special prices tick this/set this to true.
Products - Assign the products you want to trigger this promotion, I am setting this to all.
Customers type - Here is where you will assign the Customer type you created, from the drop down select select customer type, then choose your created customer type.
Offer type - Set this to product offer, select the product you want your customers to receive, set the offer price type to discount.
next set up the offer quantity, which will be how many the customer will receive and the qualifying quantity, how many need to be bought to trigger the promotion, then the discounted percentage, i.e 100.
Once save, go back to the main promotions screen and run the Update promotion Product function.
Using the promotion
Now when customer add the trigger products to their basket, from the product pages and the basket they will be able to see the following popup.
Clicking through they will see the following screen, which they can use to add the promotions product to their basket.
